program studies

Classes by (Grade) Age

Our curriculum increases a child’s understanding of our rich Catholic heritage of Scripture, doctrine, liturgy and tradition, and is based on the most recent Church guidelines concerning the education of Catholic children. Our program is organized into four main areas: God; Message; Community; Covenant. These four strands present Catholic teaching and witness to children in a program that combines content with experience.

The Tabor Faith First program is used, except in the two years of sacramental preparation and the pre-school years.

Theme-Identity

Well-told stories engage the imagination of children and stimulate reflection on their experiences. Building on children's own experiences of self, they learn who Jesus is, and who we all are as His People, the Church. Prayer and Worship are seen as special expressions of this sense of identity.

Theme-Community

Reconciliation and Eucharist. Once again, stories out of the students' own lives will connect with these two sacraments. The teacher prepares the children for First Reconciliation and First Communion.

Theme-Growth

The children's own experiences of life are our starting point. In our lives we experience God's creation. He wants to relate to us is a particular way through the ministries of the Church. Jesus is life giver, and so are we as we carry out his work.

Theme-Creating

The earth belongs to God; we are called to help him with his creative process by taking care of the world and the people in it. The Ten Commandments are seen as guides given by God to help us live our lives. The People of God are challenged to continue God's work of mercy, justice and peace.

Theme-Symbols

People use symbols to express and understand the meaning of the deeper aspects of existence. The students understand their own use of symbol, and apply it to understand the ways God works in life through liturgy and the sacraments.

Theme-Journey

The Church is the People of God, on a journey toward the future that God has prepared. This journey is rooted in the past, and the Bible and Church history are sources to help us place ourselves on its path. The Church celebrates in the present through prayer and ritual. The Church also works toward bringing the world closer to God by serving the needs of those who are struggling.

Image

As Junior High students search for a deeper sense of self-identity as part of the natural growth process, this year deepens one's personal relationship with Jesus. Jesus is seen as a model, guide, and hero-one who lived his life to the fullest. Building on this pivotal relationship, students explore their relationships with others. The Church is a community of people who bond together for mutual support.

Quest

Eighth graders spend the year preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation, to complete their initiation into Church membership. The catechetical component of confirmation preparation uses classroom activities in the process of prayer, reflection and service to help the candidates prepare for the sacrament.

Ninth grader spend their second year preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation to complete their initiation into the Church membership. TEXT: “Welcome to the Way”

Early Childhood Religious Education
Pre-School--Four and Five Year Olds

Using materials and activities consistent with early childhood education, we help these children to celebrate their lives as gifts from God, and to enjoy the persons, places and things that God has created. We help them to use their own gifts creatively. We explore being a good friend. Holidays and other special celebrations give ways for showing their love for God and others.
