program procedures

The Academic Year

CCE classes are held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings from September through April. A schedule of dates is carefully constructed each year considering school, parish and holiday calendars. Parents should carefully note the published calendar of dates and special meeting for each academic year.

Program Registration

Registration is done through the Religious Education Office. A beginning student will have a registration form filled out containing pertinent biographical, family, and sacramental information. A student transferring into our program must submit a transfer form completed by the previous program's director. There must be a copy of the Baptismal Certificate filed in the Religious Education Office. The permanent record will remain on file in the Religious Education Office, containing catechetical and sacramental information. If a student transfers from our program, upon request, a copy of his record will be sent to the administrator of the new program.

Arrival Time/Tardiness

On Sundays, classes begin promptly at 9:45 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. and 11:45 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.  Parents are responsible for their children prior to their entering the building and after they leave the premises. Entrance should be through the main doors of the school building only. Arrival should be prompt.

It is not acceptable for parents to bring a child late to religious education class due to participation in a park district or similar recreation program.

Attendance

Regular attendance at CCE classes is an important factor in helping your child deepen his/her understanding of church teaching, scripture, prayer and the importance of community. If your child will miss a class, please notify the CCE Office. You may complete the lesson missed at home. If your child wants to make up for his/her missed class, please contact the CCE Office. If the student has three (3) consecutive absences or attends less than one third (1/3) of a session, a CCE representative will be in touch with the parent/guardian.

Attendance at Mass

It is mandatory for all students in CCE to attend Mass. Students who do not attend Mass regularly, will not receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion or the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Medication/First Aid Treatment

We will apply a band-aid to an injury if one occurs, but cannot act further or administer any medication. This is a legal mandate which we must not disregard. We cannot even allow students to take medication themselves. Special circumstances should be discussed with the director.

In case of emergency, we will use prudent judgment in determining action and in all cases immediately try to contact the parents or the party designated by them to be contacted. Parents are asked to sign an Emergency Permission form to facilitate this action.

Behavior

Cooperative and courteous behavior is expected of all students. Minor discipline problems will be handled directly by the catechist. If a student is a serious or consistent discipline problem, he or she will be referred to the program director. At this time, it will be determined whether the parents are also to be consulted.

Classrooms used for CCE are also used by other parish groups during the week. Students must respect materials left in the classrooms. Parents and students will be responsible for any problems in this regard.

Text materials used in the program are the property of CCE and on loan to the students for use during the year.
